The NABARD Watershed Program was successfully implemented to cover a total of 951 hectares of land in Jinnapura and three surrounding villages. This project was designed with the aim of conserving natural resources, improving soil fertility, and ensuring sustainable agricultural practices for the farming community. The program focused on addressing critical issues such as soil erosion, water scarcity, and low productivity, which are common challenges in rainfed farming areas.
“Save soil, save water – secure the future of farmers.”
In the initial phase of the project, a household survey was conducted across all four villages to gather baseline data and understand the socio-economic conditions of the residents. A total of 650 households were covered under this survey, which helped in identifying the needs, resources, and potential livelihood opportunities of the community. This ensured that the project was people-centric and designed in a way that directly addressed the requirements of the villagers.
Following the survey, detailed net planning was carried out for the treatment of the watershed area. Through this planning, measures were taken to ensure that soil and water conservation activities were distributed across the entire 951 hectares of land, directly benefiting 646 farmers in the watershed locality. Scientific methods and best practices in watershed management were adopted to make the program sustainable and impactful.
The major objective of this watershed program was to enhance soil and water conservation, prevent land degradation, and improve the overall soil quality. By conserving water resources and reducing runoff, farmers could achieve better yields even with less water. This not only improved crop productivity but also helped farmers become more resilient to droughts and other climatic uncertainties.
The implementation of this program has empowered the farming community by providing them with improved soil health, better water availability, and increased agricultural productivity. Ultimately, it has contributed to the economic stability and sustainability of the farmers and their families in the region.
